What would your wish be?

Meet Banner. This picture was taken last spring at one of our local county parks. You are being introduced to Banner because his owner gifted me all kinds of good luck. I am now the proud owner of one of Banner's horseshoes.

From what I am told, a horseshoe must be given after it is removed from the horse's foot in order for the luck to remain intact. You cannot find one on the side of the road, for when it is lost, the luck is lost with it. Looks like lots of rules here.

A horseshoe hung in your home is supposed to protect your family and attract good fortune. Works for me.

Some of my friends said to hang the horseshoe ends up makind it a holding tank for all of the luck floating around the house.

Others said to hang the horseshoe ends down so that the luck will flow out over the threshold, keeping evil out. I don't know if I buy that one.

Then I read that you should use a combination of both. The thought was that once it got full, it would need to be emptied so that everyone could share in the good luck. Sounds good, but awfully high maintenance.

I'm opting to hang it ends up. If it overflows, that's ok with me. But first, I am told you are supposed to make a wish. I'll have to think about this one.

What would your wish be?

I'm not all that superstitious. I don't have any horseshoes hanging around and I don't have any wind chimes hanging outside the door to keep evil spirits out either. But, lately I'm starting think it couldn't hurt to try it. LOL

my parents say the open end up. Keep the luck in so it don't run out.

I've got a 5 gallon bucket full of horseshoes that have been removed. send 20 dollars to prettygirlrodeo@sbcglobal.net with your mailing address.

I'd vote for hanging it pointed up -- I've seen and heard that a lot and this is the first time I've heard that it was good to hang it pointed down.

I'd wish for the war to end. All wars to end.

If I had a horse shoe hanging over my door I wish for it to stay put. With my luck, it would fall on my head...That's my kind of luck!

Obviously, you have hung the horseshoe the right way as you and Willi have each other. Haven't you had a fine year since receiving the horseshoe? Your daughter was married; the son-in-law is a great guy. You have a new job. Well, maybe that is due to hard work. But, good things are happening.

I would wish for world peace or maybe for starters along with Rodney King...if we could all just get along.

I love horseshoes. I love windchimes too. If I could make a wish, I would wish as most of you did, an end to wars. I would also wish for everyone in the world to "have enough". Enough food and water, enough love, enough warm clothing and enough friends who make up for everything else.

The work to be lucky needs to be done. But maybe then luck will come to the one who is ready for the proper chance to make something happen. There is no doubt that sometimes there is a run of luck of the good kind or even of the bad kind. We just need to be ready to do what we can do, the best that we can, and with whom we can.

mw.com defines luck as:
1 a : a force that brings good fortune or adversity b : the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual

I would wish that only the good fortune luck that operates for your health and happiness comes your way :-)

Thanks for the oreos! If I ever have any beer in my house left over from company, you are welcome to it :-)

Debi and Daddy D: Your comments are so nice together - one wishes for everyone to have what they need and the other says we all need to do what we can to provide these things. I love it!

I have quite a collection of horse shoes. Some were taken from my horses' feet, but most I've either found or bought. I have little, teeny tiny ones all the way up to huge, drafthorse size shoes. I also have windchimes hanging all over my screened in porch. I'm not superstitious, I just love horseshoes and windchimes!! My wish is for Peace on Earth.

Hello Songbird! I have windchimes also. I love the sound of them during the night with the windows open. I wish for peace also...
