It's a good day to be a dog.
This is an AP photo of Diamond Jim, or James, as he is known. He is the English Springer Spaniel that won the 2007 Westminster Best in Show this week at Madison Square Gardens.
This is Cali Mist of Sierra, or Cali, as she is known. She is our English Springer Spaniel, and she had a day of her own this week. You see, Cali loves people. They told us she would when we brought her home, but we really didn't know what that meant. She thinks that everyone, EVERYONE, wants to love on her; and she wants to return the favor.
She wraps herself around your legs and if you don't have a good solid stance, she will take you right over. As a result, we never take Cali outside unless she is teathered at the end of a nice long leash.
With the wonderfully large amount of snow we had Tuesday night, it was our great pleasure to open the door at 4:30 Wednesday morning and let her run. There were no cars, no people, nothing; just the snow that Cali loves.
Fresh, untrodden snow. And no leash! It was one of the nicest times I have had recently. I think I enjoyed it equally as much as she did!
She ran and jumped and lunged through the snow; around and around. Interestingly enough, she never once tried to leave the yard.
Several times she stopped and looked at me as if to say, "Are you really going to let me do this?"
The tracks tell the tale of a good day for a dog, our Best of Show in the snow!

Oh Joyous Dog Day...I too have a dog that I cannot let off leash. She would be gone in heartbeat and would go home with anyone...but, oh, those moments when the leash can safely be removed and she can run?!? I wish I could feel that good, ya know?
Your dog looks a lot like the champion! She sounds like a fun dog to have around. All that snow and to see her prints; what fun!
Such a lovely dog. Ours is like that too. Just loves everyone, but not the snow, like yours.
Beautiful dog, beautiful snow. :)
There are some folks in the village here who breed working springers (as opposed to springer spaniels for show). They're so full of energy!! Your Cali is a beautiful dog.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. As to the Goldfish, I don't know if they would live through an Indiana winter but they do well here in the south. Samibear
Dilling - I don't know that we can feel the joy of unbridled freedom. It sure is wonderful to see it though.
Patsy and Goldennib- Cali is a fun dog to have around. Most of the time. She does do dopey dog stuff, but she sure is good company.
Laurie - good to see you. I'm going to have to follow up on your concert line-up!
Peggy, Willi was telling me the difference this evening between the working and bench breeds. We did buy Cali from breeders, but have no intention of breeding or show. We actually thought she would be a good dog for Willi's oldest son. She wound up staying with us for the duration and we have not regretted it one bit. She is full of energy...and personality. You should hear her "talk". I should try to catch that on a clip and post it. It is hysterical!
Samibear - I have seen goldfish in the ponds during the summer, but agree that they would probably not make it through the cold.
Your pictures remind me of my family's dog, Princess. She was a Shetland sheep dog that loved snow. I can still see her bounding through the snow with her short little legs.
Or, maybe she was looking for that lost sheep...I am kidding she was timid dog; a real sheep would have frightened her.
I bet after her morning run through the snow she came back in and settled down to a nice long nap. Dreaming about running through the snow.
what great photos of your dog enjoying her play time lovely
Awww. Such a sweetie. I bet she really enjoyed that. Every once in a while I take my little boy dog down to the baseball park and let him run around in the fenced off diamonds. I swear he smiles as he runs.
Cali is just beautiful!
Our dogs love running free in the snow as well...it's the only time they get to go on the street without leashes.
Gawilla, My url did not link with my name so I am putting it in this comment box. patsyann.wordpress.com
Beautiful! Thanks for commenting on my blog. Mama Bear
I've got a Beagle and apart from the hair length, they are pretty much the same dog, especially when people and leashes are concerned. Actually whenever I see a Springer Spaniel, I amazed at how similar the faces are.
